Upside Down Tomato

Bruce planted an upside down tomato this evening... can't wait to see how this works out.

He cut a small hole in the bottom of a hanging basket and inserted the tomato up from the bottom. I held the plant in place while he put a coffee filter between the roots and the bottom of the planter. Then he added the potting soil.

On the top, he planted a few impatience and a green pepper.

I handed the basket to him to go hang off of a shepherd's hook next to the patio. He stopped to water the plants, and forgetting the tomato was sticking out of the bottom of the planter, he had set it down on the ground. Oops. Luckily it didn't break the plant.

New Oriole Feeder

It's been a couple of weeks since I saw the orioles in our backyard.

Seeing one at work today reminded me to pick up an orange to place on top of our new oriole feeder at home.

I need to move the shepherd's hook a bit closer to the window so I can keep an eye out for the orioles to return to taste-test the citrus treat.

Peonies

I'm still waiting on our peonies to bloom. I moved the asters that were shading them a few weeks ago so I'm hoping that brings in enough sunlight to let those little peony buds pop open.

Former neighbors Judy and Paul stopped by to check to make sure their new realtor's sign was up in their front yard. Their peonies are in full bloom. Paul pulled out his pocked knife and cut a few for me to bring into the house.

They are spectacular.

Beer Up The Butt Chicken

We got the recipe from Kelly S. She swears that beer up the butt is the best way to cook chicken.

You take a full beer and stuff it up the butt of the chicken;, plug the neck opening with an onion, and rub seasonings on the outside of the chicken's skin.

Bruce also put some water-soaked hickory chips on the charcoal.

I couldn't believe how delicious the chicken tasted. Much better than the broasted whole chickens from the grocery store.

Nature: Up Close and Personal

I was playing with the macro focus on my camera today -- taking a few shots of the two rose bushes at the northwest corner of our property.

Looks like I'm not the only one who is enjoying the roses.

That Dog is Fluffy

Spike visited the Dog Gone Good dog groomers on Ash Road in Osceola today for a spa treatment.

I had cut most of the paint out of his fur from last weekend's painting mishap, but there was still paint on his ear that I couldn't get off.

The dog groomer not only got all of the paint out of his fur, but also trimmed his toenails, made him smell terrific and gave him this dapper tie.

Grandma's Cat Goldie

Grandma was a bit under the weather today so instead of taking her out, we did a bit of shopping for her and then stopped by for a visit.

Here's a photo of her cat, Goldie.

Both Goldie and Grandma are enjoying a bit of peace and quite now that her noisy roommate has been moved to a different room.

It took a couple of weeks of phone calls to administrators at the "institution" to get the roommate moved.

It wasn't a problem with them getting along... the problem was the roommate played her TV, at full blast, all day and evening long. It was driving Grandma crazy.
