Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

It's snowing yet again here in northern Indiana. This is the 4th snowfall of the season. Total accumulation as of Tuesday was four inches. It did warm up enough on Wednesday that most of the snow had melted and the grass was visible again. But, tonight it started snowing again. It's going to be tough going bringing up the split firewood from the woods to the patio this weekend.

First Snow of the Season

Monday afternoon we had rain and hail. The weathermen said it wouldn't stick, but when I woke Tuesday I had to hunt down my snow scraper.

Rainy Morning

The rain gauge shows 3" from this morning's rain. I usually complain about our sandy soil, but today it was helpful in quickly draining the 7" of standing water in the culvert under our driveway.

California Boy Has Never Seen Hail

Bruce's second cousin, Jan and her hubby Phil were in town this week.

When Bruce's mom, Judy, called to say she had a spiral ham, we decided to have everyone over for Sunday dinner.

It was nice to get together with them, but the circumstances were sad. Phil's mother passed away and he was in town for the funeral.

I had just finished giving Jan and Phil a tour of the garden -- they were here last year right after we built the raised boxes -- when the rain started coming down.



Phil is a weather junkie, just like Bruce. They were both standing in the garage watching the storm pass through when the hail started. At first, Phil wasn't sure what was going on. He'd never seen hail before.

I took a video of the hail, but after You Tube was finished down sampling it, you can't even see the hail. If you watch this video, just disregard the board that is sticking up on the deck. And, ignore the fact that the cedar table and bench have been cleaned, but not the chairs. Those projects are still on our "to do" list.

Crazy Weather

I didn't really think about how crazy our weather has been this week until a friend, returning from Costa Rica, called me to ask about it.

Monday it was so foggy I missed my exit off the bypass because I didn't see it through the fog. It took me four hours to drive from Lafayette to Elkhart; a trip that normally takes two hours.

The fog continued Tuesday morning, with a bonus rain storm in the evening.

The warmer weather and rain have caused more wide-spread flooding with many of the county roads closed.

Wednesday started out with rain and turned to snow in the afternoon.

This weekend we were supposed to get 10" to 12" of snow, but only received a couple of inches. The biggest problems now are the ice and wind. It's very, very cold. The standing water has frozen and the winds are blowing snowdrifts across the formerly flooded county roads.

The toll road and bypass were both closed earlier today. The morning news reported that police officials have advised everyone to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
